Anderson, Ryan. “The Alternative to Physician-Assisted Suicide: Respect Human Dignity and Offer True Compassion.” The Heritage Foundation, www.heritage.org/health-care-  reform/report/the-alternative-physician-assisted-suicide-respect-human-dignity-and.

This report was written by Ryan Anderson, who is a William E. Simon Senior Research Fellow in American Principles and Public Policy at The Heritage Foundation. Dr. Anderson effectively discusses the reasons why physician assisted suicide shouldn’t be legal. He also states the alternatives to physician-assisted suicide. People who are asking for physician-assisted suicide suffer from different types of mental illnesses. He stresses on the importance of responding to pain and suffering with true compassion and unity. This article was  helpful in my scientific controversy paper when I was discussing the opposition side of physician-assisted suicide. It also helped me strengthen my argument in a more articulate way.

“Physician-Assisted Suicide Compromises the Family and Intergenerational Obligations.” The Heritage Foundation, www.heritage.org/health-care-reform/report/physician-assisted-suicide-compromises-the-family-and-intergenerational.

This report was also written by Ryan Anderson. He discussed that Physician-Assisted suicide would undermine familial relationships and promote the conception that elder relatives are burdens to be managed. He argued that physician-assisted suicide doesn’t bring a family together. Instead, its intended to exclude family members from the actual decision-making process. An experiment in Europe revealed that more requests for physician-assisted suicide came from the families than from the patients themselves. This report was useful for my paper because it showed the familial side of the issue and how families suffer from it.

Appel, Jacob M. “Next: Assisted Suicide for Healthy People.” HuffPost, HuffPost, 25 May 2011, www.huffpost.com/entry/assisted-suicide-for-heal_b_236664.

The article was written by Jacob Appel, who is a bioethicist and medical historian. In this article, he focuses on the rights of terminally ill patients and their ability to control their own destinies. He believes that they must have a certain mental capacity to request physician-assisted suicide. Supporters of physician-assisted suicide might worry that assisted suicide for people who are healthy ricks the general public against a noble cause. This source was useful in explaining to the oppositional view of this controversy.

Ball, Howard. “Physician Assisted Death in America: Ethics, Law, and Policy Conflicts.” Cato Unbound, 22 Mar. 2013, www.cato-unbound.org/2012/12/10/howard-ball/physician- assisted-death-america-ethics-law-policy-conflicts.

This article, written by Howard Ball, discusses the ethics law and policy conflicts of physician-assisted suicide. There has been a significant change in the society’s view about death. Over the years, there has been an expansion of individual liberties. For example, he states the privacy value has been expanded to protect marital, sexual, and abortion rights. He seems certain that physician-assisted suicide will also eventually be seen as a constitutional right that terminally ill patients can have. This article was useful in discussing the ethical and judicial side of physician-assisted suicide.

Linton, Paul Benjamin. “BETTER SOLUTIONS THAN ASSISTED SUICIDE.” Chicagotribune.com, 1 Sept. 2018, www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1993-12-26-9312260140-story.html.

This article was written by Paul Linton, who is an associate general counsel for Lithigation Americans United for Life. He states the most assisted-suicide proposals are driven by fear of pain, isolation, technology, etc.  He believes that physician-assisted suicide is corrupting medical industry. The data that was presented in the “Remmelink Report”, revealed that involuntary euthanasia is practiced on a large scale. Linton is advocating for better solutions such as hospice care or medical insurance for terminally ill patients. I personally found this article helpful because much of the content in this article discusses the misuse of the authority of physicians.

Nordqvist, Christian. “Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide: What Are They and What Do They Mean?” Medical News Today, MediLexicon International, 17 Dec. 2018,   www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/182951.php.

This article was written by Christian Nordqvist, who is the co-owner of medical news today. He spoke about the different definitions and types of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. Palliative care is specialized care catered to individuals who are living with a serious illness. Nordqvist states that one argument against physician-assisted suicide is the Hippocratic Oath, which date backs to 2,500 years ago. Medical doctors vow to never give a deadly drug to anyone who asks for it, nor will they make a suggestion to that effect. In this article, he strategically listed the arguments for those who are for physician-assisted suicide. He also lists the arguments for those are against it. He backs up his claims by using a bunch of statistical data that either support or disagree with physician-assisted suicide.
